For Sale: 1974 Citroën DS23 Safari

Member, Jamie Bryce, is offering for sale his DS23 Safari. He comments:

If you are planning to buy a Citroen Safari the later DS23 series is the one to go for, having the extra torque of a larger 2.3 litre engine and the benefit of a 5sp overdrive gearbox for more relaxed highway cruising. Purchased in 2021 from the original owner, this unrestored Safari is not a show vehicle and shows the patina of long-term country ownership. But it is reliable, & structurally sound.

The good: Much mechanical refurbishment has been done over the last four years, with receipts available for all work completed. Hydraulics, brakes, electrical system, exhaust system, timing chain & other bolt-on items have all been refurbished or replaced, and a 123 electronic ignition system fitted. Tyres are Nanking Retro, with the spare tyre unused. The seats have also been re-upholstered.

The not-so-good: The previous owner had removed the original "strapontin" folding seats: one was missing at the time of purchase (I have obtained a replacement which will be included with the car). The turning mechanism on the inner driving lights has also been disabled. A few other "non-standard" modifications made over the years remain to be rectified; some parts for this will be included with the car.

This DS23 Safari is not a show car, but has been used regularly & reliably by me around Melbourne & in country Victoria. In 2024 it travelled to both the Tasmanian Cit-In in Devonport and, later in the year, to central Queensland (Carnarvon Gorge & Gayndah) to meet up with the RAID group from central Australia. It retains full Victorian registration with original 1970's period black & white plates. I have a full set of spare hoses/belts/hydraulic return hoses (current value from Europe around $500) which, for the right price, will be included with the car. As far as I am aware everything works: the only reason for selling is that I have taken on another car project, so with limited car storage something has to go.
